In his famous hymn, Good news from heaven the angels bring, Martin Luther writes:
"Good news from heaven the angels bring,
Glad tidings to the earth they sing:
To us this day a child is given,
To crown us with the joy of heaven."
It is this joy of heaven that came down to us at Christmas, the son of God, who came to bring us his joy and place the joy of life in Him in our hearts. The angels on that first Christmas brought tidings of great joy to the shepherds and to all people who believe in the saving power of a little baby in a manger. This Sunday, the third Sunday of advent,we celebrate this joy with our Family Christmas Service with reflections on the joy of Christmas, the Prayer of Joy, clips from our favourite Christmas movies, Australian 12 Days of Christmas Skit*, an impromptu adult Christmas Pageant, inspirational music by Mario Lanza, Bing Crosby and David Bowie, Pentatonix, Josh Groban and the Gaithers! Special guest appearance by the Voices of Christmas who will lead us into a Carol Singalong and hot chocolate at the end of the service. Oh be sure to wear your Ugly Christmas Sweater!
This Sunday we celebrate the Joy that only life in Christ can bring.
