A DOON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH  COMMUNION SERVICE

( Rev. Scott Sinclair)

WE ARE THE EARTH

CHANT: Jesus Remember Me (#206)

Jesus, remember me,
When you come into your kingdom.

MEDITATIVE SILENCE

CALL TO WORSHIP:

ONE: Come and fill our hearts with your peace. You alone, O Lord, are holy.

RESPONSE:  Come and fill our hearts with your peace, God on high.

ONE: Bless the Lord, my soul, and bless God’s holy name.

RESPONSE:  Bless the Lord, my soul, who leads me into life.

ONE: O Lord, open our lips

ALL:  And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

PRAYER:

ONE:  Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation, to you be praise and glory forever. As one of sorrows and acquainted with grief your only Son was lifted up that he might draw the whole world to himself. May we walk this day in the way of the cross and always be ready to share its weight, declaring your love for all the world. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

RESPONSE: Blessed be God forever. Amen.

CHANT: O Lord hear my prayer (#446)

O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord, hear my prayer.

           When I call, answer me.

           O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord hear my prayer.

           Come and listen to me.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 19, Mark 4:26-29

WE ARE THE EARTH

SONG :          Create in me a clean heart

Create in me a clean heart O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

Create in me a clean heart O God,

And renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence O Lord,

Take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation,

And renew a right spirit within me.

COMMUNION PRAYER:

ONE:              The Lord be with you

RESPONSE: And also with you.

ONE:              Lift up your hearts.

RESPONSE: We lift them up to the Lord.

ONE:              Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

RESPONSE: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

ONE:  It is truly right and our greatest joy, to give you praise. We praise you, joining our voices with the heavenly choirs, and with the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name:

And so we sing together:

ALL:  Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might.

           Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

           Hosanna in the highest!

           Blessed is the one who comes in the name of our God!

ONE:  We remember how on the night before he died,

Jesus sat at the table with his friends,

Celebrating the Passover feast,

And he took bread, and he blessed it.

And broke it and gave it to his disciples saying:

“Take and eat, this is my body given for you.

Whenever you do this, remember me.”

After supper he took a cup of wine,

And blessed it and gave it to his disciples saying:

“Drink this, all of you: this is my blood;

The new covenant poured out for you.

Whenever you do this, remember me.”

And so we do as Jesus told us:

We share this bread and this cup,

Remembering your wonderful love for us in Christ Jesus.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us,

And on all your people

Bless this bread and this wine

That they might refresh and renew us

As Christ’s body in the world. We pray in Jesus’ name,

ALL:  Amen.

SHARING THE BREAD

ONE:              We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

RESPONSE: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in the one bread.

Say your own prayer and receive this gift of God.

SHARING THE CUP

ONE:              We drink of this cup to share in the life of Christ.

RESPONSE: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all drink of the one cup.

Say your own prayer and receive this gift of God.

CHANT: Eat This Bread (#527)

Eat this bread, drink this cup,

come to me and never be hungry.

Eat this bread, drink this cup,

trust in me and you will not thirst.

After you have taken the communion read this passage to yourself:

It is God who forgives all your guilt,

who heals every one of your ills,

who redeems your life from the grave,

who crowns you with love and compassion.

The Lord is compassion and love,

slow to anger and rich in mercy.

God does not treat us according to our sins

nor repay us according to our faults.

As a Father has compassion in his children,

the Lord has pity on those who fear him;

for God knows of what we are made,

God remembers that we are dust.

BENEDICTION

One: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord

All: Thanks be to God.

The Jude Benediction

Now to him who is able to keep you;

Who is able to keep you from stumbling,

And to make you stand in the presence;

Of his glory, blameless with great joy.

To the only God our Saviour;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord;

Be glory, majesty, dominion and power

For now, all time, and forever.

Amen …
