Sunday's Service Message April 5, 2020

Rev. Canon E. Karen Kovats

A Poem for Doon Presbyterian Church

I found a poem that was written about the pandemic. It is not a homily but it is inspirational and I found it very uplifting to reflect on God’s sovereignty.

A former student at Renison University College named Ruthie, a woman of deep creativity and faith sent this poem, that she wrote, to the Chaplain there. I have found it helpful:

like a tsunami
with warning
we anticipate
we pre-grieve
all that is to come
we feel the wave
advancing
and look to the
life ring in our
hands,
feeling unequipped
to deal with the
impending
doom.
we know how
to swim,
but we have
never survived
a tidal wave
like this.
but we will
keep treading
water.
keep raising
our hands
and our hearts;
knowing others
are swimming
beside us,
while others
inflate life rafts
and some
build boats on
land.
knowing the
one who calms
the waters,
also knows how
to swim.
so we fix our
eyes in
trust,
looking not at
the waves,
but keeping our
eyes on the
one who holds
the oceans.

Colossians 1:17 God’s Son was before all else and by him everything is held together.

I hold all of you in my prayers. This too shall pass.

Peace be within your walls

Karen
